1.2amp iPad3 Solar charger

Postby cottonpickers » Tue Jun 26, 2012 8:51 pm

I've been playing around with solar and an iPad, and have managed to build out what I hope to be the best iPad solar charger available ANYWHERE (well I have to big it up don't I!!).

As you may know, Apple use some circuitry to manage the charging currents in their products and to encourage you to buy Apple ;-) so I've had to match up the resistors and data lines.

By mating a 1 amp solar panel to a small 4 cell aa battery pack and wiring up the resistors and diodes correctly I can charge the iPad3 at 1200ma or the iphone at 700ma. This is pretty impressive.

The panels are being made up to my spec as we speak, and should arrive in a few days. I'll post some pics shortly and make these available but I hope this will be a viable alternative to 'grid' power.

Hi,

Let me know when you have these ready, I would really be interested in one of these, would it charge my Iphone as well or would I need a different one?
