Setting up the Pi with a Nexus 7 to act as a monitor

Postby cottonpickers » Fri Jul 13, 2012 7:37 pm

Well, I've got a Nexus 7 on order, and I'm going to use it as a cool monitor.

My plan is to install VNC to access the Pi remotely :-) wherever it is in the house. This will be 'Stage 1' of getting a website running on the pi (maybe even this one) using Solar and wifi so the pi sits outside all year :-) with the monitor (Nexus) inside.

So if you have a Nexus ordered, let me know and we can follow each other to get it optimally set up, and share what you are up to with yours.

Its arrived :-) seems very nice .. love the size. I paid £168 from Google direct. I was a bit tight and just got the 8gb version' became with £15 Google play credit so its not a bad price all in. Typing it on it currently. Need to get vnc sorted now :-)

I thought about getting it from the US to get it in Dollars, but like you I've been hit by duties before.... eek!

So in the end I got it from the UK Google Play Store.
I'm going to post full instructions later for this and the iPad, but for now, here's the eye candy!!
I was able to leave the Pi in the garden and control it indoors :-) sweet.

The Nexus 7 alone will power the Pi and VNC is smooth. http://cl.ly/image/163b1D1K1R3C
