USB 2.0 Hub Power by 12 volts

Postby King » Mon Aug 19, 2013 12:28 pm

Is there any one who have any recommendation for a USB Hub that runs on 12 volt. I understand that the PI only supports a 2.0, Correct? So I need a 2.0 HUB for USB
The reason that I want a Hub is that I want to try if I can get a USB camera to work and on the location I only have 12 volt.

King: The Pi actually ignores the 2 data pins inside the USB port, and just sucks power off the two (red/black) outer USB pins. This means that USB1, USB2 or USB3 should be fine. If you are struggling to get a 12v hub, one option that may work for you is one of these:

Then you just wire the negative 12v to the outside metal, and the red positive 12v lead to the middle. This would give you 2 USB ports with 1amp on each. This particular model may not be the best quality, but you get the idea.
